European CMR Exam
and Exam Certification
Introduction
The European CMR Exam is one component of the evolving processes for the recognition of training in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) offered by the CMR Section of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging.
The aim of this process is to set a European standard for competency in the practice of CMR and to give trainees in CMR the opportunity to test their knowledge against an internationally set standard.
However, it is emphasized that recognition of training through the EACVI Section on CMR will not currently represent a recognized certification in CMR and that certification of CMR competency by the WG is not a compulsory or regulatory certificate.
At present, an individual's right to report and sign clinical studies in individual countries are defined by National laws and regulations.
It is ultimately the aim of the CMR Section EACV Ito develop a standard of training in CMR that is mutually accepted by national and European authorities and one that is recognized internationally.
Certification of competency in CMR can be obtained at three levels, with different requirements for each level. All certification requires candidates to demonstrate they have acquired knowledge from appropriate sources and developed skills in the clinical practice of CMR. Levels 2 and 3 require the completion of a case logbook and passing the European CMR Exam.
Further details of the proposal for CMR training have been described in (Plein S, et al. Training and accreditation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance in Europe: a position statement of the working group on cardiovascular magnetic resonance of the European Society of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, Volume32, Issue7, Pp. 793-798. http://eurheartj.oxfordjournals.org/content/32/7/793.full).
